Celebrating African Way of Life

Spring Festival 2026

On Friday 20 March 2026, Ceebee Gold Foundation brought the community together at Manchester Settlement in Openshaw for our Celebrating African Way of Life – Openshaw Live Well Spring Festival.

It was a wonderful day celebrating African culture, community and wellbeing. Children, young people, adults and older residents came together to enjoy traditional music and dance, cultural fashion, storytelling, face painting, African food and family activities.

Health and wellbeing were also an important part of the day, allowing community members about the the the the the the support available to them.

The event helped bring people from different backgrounds together, reduce isolation, celebrate our rich culture and strengthen community connections.

We are very grateful to Live Well Greater Manchester for funding the project and to Manchester Settlement, our partners, volunteers and everyone who supported us.

Most importantly, a huge thank you to everyone who joined us and made the day so special.

Your Voice, Your Community – Openshaw & Clayton

Ceebee Gold Foundation is proud to deliver Your Voice, Your Community, a project allowing residents of Openshaw and Clayton to have their voices heard and help shape what matters in their local community.

We want to hear directly from local people, including older residents, women, young people, young adults, families and new migrants. By listening to people’s experiences, ideas and concerns, we can better understand local needs and how available funding and support can make the greatest difference.

Residents can share their views during our weekly Friday sessions from 3pm at Manchester Settlement, or through our website.

This project is delivered in partnership with Pride in Place 4CT.

Your ideas. Your community. Our future.

COOP Live Community Fund – Supporting Our Community

In January 2026, Ceebee Gold Foundation started a 16-week community programme, funded by Manchester City Council and COOP Live, to support local people and families through practical activities, learning and wellbeing support.

The programme included our cultural food bank, cooking together and healthy meal preparation, computer training and hygiene sessions for young girls. We also organised a day trip to Chester Zoo, giving families and community members an opportunity to spend time together, reduce isolation and improve their wellbeing.

Through this project, we were able to bring people of different ages and backgrounds together, help people develop useful everyday skills and provide much-needed support to families experiencing hardship.

We are very grateful to Manchester City Council and COOP Live for making this programme possible, and to our volunteers, partners and community members who took part and supported the project.

The programme includes mental wellbeing support, physical activities and regular health checks, with a focus on cardiovascular health and diabetes. It also provides healthy cooking and nutrition sessions, using culturally appropriate foods and helping people make healthier choices while still enjoying the foods they know and love.

Through this programme, we aim to encourage early awareness of health risks, improve wellbeing and give people practical knowledge they can use in their everyday lives.

We are grateful to Live Well Greater Manchester and MACC for funding and supporting this important work.

The programme created a friendly and welcoming space where people could connect with others, improve their wellbeing, learn new skills and receive practical support when they needed it.

Supporting our community with dignity, care and culturally appropriate food.

Healthy Cooking & Hypertension Awareness

As part of our high blood pressure and hypertension awareness programme, Ceebee Gold Foundation delivers practical healthy cooking sessions to support our community in making healthier food choices.

Participants learn how to reduce salt, prepare healthier meals, manage portion sizes and make simple changes to their everyday diet. We also show people how traditional and culturally familiar foods can be prepared in healthier ways without losing their flavour.

These sessions help raise awareness of the importance of healthy eating in preventing and managing high blood pressure, while bringing people together to cook, learn and share.

I think this version is particularly suitable for your website because it explains both what you do and why you do it.

Skills for Life – Supporting Young People to Learn, Grow and Thrive

At Ceebee Gold Foundation, we believe every young person should have the opportunity to learn practical skills, build confidence and develop positive relationships within their community.

Our Skills for Life programme provided a safe and welcoming space for young people to learn, create, make new friends and develop useful skills for their future.

The programme included barbering, hair cutting and hairdressing, arts and crafts, personal hygiene and self-care education, as well as food support for families experiencing hardship.

Young people received practical barbering and hairdressing training from experienced professionals, helping them develop new skills, confidence and responsibility while introducing them to skills that could support future training or employment.

Our arts and crafts activities brought young people and older members of the community together, encouraging different generations to learn from one another, share experiences and build positive relationships.

Through our personal hygiene and wellbeing sessions, young people also learned about self-care, personal hygiene and healthy everyday habits in a supportive and age-appropriate environment.

Overall, the programme helped young people to build confidence and self-esteem, develop practical skills, make new friendships, work together and recognise their potential.

The activities were delivered at Manchester Settlement, 1328–1330 Ashton Old Road, Openshaw, Manchester, M11 1JG.

This Skills for Life programme was funded by the Souter Charitable Trust. We are very grateful for their support, which enabled Ceebee Gold Foundation to provide these valuable opportunities for young people in our community.
